Frederic Febvre, Senior Manager, R&D Strategy & Propective Labs

Frédéric Febvre graduated from France’s Centrale Marseille engineering school in 1989 with a degree in marine engineering. After an initial experience as a project engineer in offshore design and installation with a contractor, Frédéric joined Total in 1992, taking up a position in one of the Group’s affiliates. He studied reservoir engineering at the IFP in 1994 and then returned to Total, working initially as a reservoir engineer and later as a manager, at headquarters in France, then in the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

Between 2002 and 2007, Frédéric was responsible for field development and architecture in the Alwyn and West of Shetland areas for Total E&P UK.

He returned to Total headquarters in Paris in 2008 to design and launch the coal-to-liquids R&D roadmap for the New Energies business, becoming the chief negotiator for contracts with certain start-ups in this area.

In 2012, he went back to E&P in the United Arab Emirates to prepare the technical proposal for the ADNOC Onshore concession. He then set up the new Technology Hub concept for the operating company, to facilitate technical support, training and technology transfer to Total’s partners.

In 2018, he joined the One R&D Division at corporate headquarters as Partnership Manager, responsible for mapping Total’s R&D partnerships and developing a strategy in this area.

Frédéric was appointed Senior Manager, R&D Strategy & Propective Labs, in 2019. His responsibilities notably include coordinating the Vision Plan and identifying emerging technologies and new science and technology partners for the Exploration & Production business.
