Jean Gavalda

Unconventional Resources

Jean Gavalda, Business Lead Negotiator

Jean graduated in 2002 from the École des Hautes Etudes d’Ingénieur.

He started his career with Total in the drilling teams of the E&P branch. He worked for seven years as a drilling and completion engineer in various countries (Netherlands, Brunei, Nigeria, Congo), and for the Technical Center at Pau headquarters. In 2009, he joined the Reservoir teams, working more particularly on evaluating the development reserves of new (Kazakhstan) and mature (Gabon) fields.

Back at headquarters in 2015, he took on the leadership of the Reservoir department in the Unconventional division. He provides technical assistance in geosciences and reservoir to Group assets (US, Argentina, China, Australia) wishing to develop and valorize their unconventional resources (shale gas/oil, tight gas/oil, coal bed methane). He is also working on adapting E&P technical standards to the unconventional context.

Since 2015, he is also in charge of the Platform for Innovative Technologies in Unconventional Resources, focusing on the strategic issues of static and dynamic SRV characterization (modeling of the Stimulated Rock Volume), drilling and completion industrialization technologies, digitalization of surface installations and big data applications related to the large number of unconventional development wells.

In 2017, Jean became a member of the URTEC technical committee (Unconventional Resources Technology Conference).

Since 2018, he is Business Lead Negotiator.
