Jean-Jacques Bassafoula - Operations Manager at Total Exploration & Production Congo

After graduating from the college of sciences at Marien Ngouabi University in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, Jean-Jacques joined Total in 1982 to work in Operations at Total Exploration & Production Congo. Between 1982 and 1989, he participated in the start-up of the affiliate's various shallow-water assets, including Yanga, Sendji, Tchibouela and Tchendo.

In 1991, Jean-Jacques spent time at the IFP School’s Pau campus in France, and then served on the Emeraude field as production superintendent

In 1996, he joined the Nkossa project group to oversee the preparation of LPG processing, decompression and distillation units in Fos-sur-Mer, France, and their installation and commissioning on a concrete barge

From 2000 to 2004, he was involved in projects at the Tchibeli field, as well as in the laying of the direct Nkossa export pipeline to the Djeno terminal, the winding down of the NKS1 oil storage facility and the installation of a second buoy at the terminal.

Jean-Jacques returned to PNGF Sud as site manager and then participated in the start-up of the Litanzi project.

In 2007, after familiarizing himself with subsea issues at Girassol, he joined the Moho Bilondo project to oversee preparation in South Korea and start-up as site manager.

Between 2011 and 2015, he was assigned to the Operating Methods unit at Pau. This very rewarding experience gave him the opportunity to work on a number of topics, such as guidance and training, and on several different assignments at affiliates in Gabon, Norway, Indonesia, Nigeria, Lacq (France) and the U.K.

Since 2016, Jean-Jacques has headed the Operations Division at Total E&P Congo, with responsibility for four departments (Maintenance, Inspection, Well Performance and Site Support) and five sites, including the Djeno terminal, shallow-water assets PNGF Nord and Nkossa, and deepwater assets Moho Bilondo and Moho Nord (two floating production units and one tension-leg platform).
