Jean-Pierre Girard, Expert in Petrography, Diagenesis and Inorganic  Geochemistry at Total E&P. 


Jean-Pierre is a low temperature geochemist. After earning a PhD in applied geology & Clastic diagenesis from Université de Poitiers and a PhD in Sedimentary geochemistry and petrology from Université Aix-Marseille III, Jean-Pierre spent 7 years at Case Western Reserve University (USA) as a researcher.


Then, he worked for 13 years with the French Geological Survey (Bureau de Recherche Géologiques et Minières).


In 2007, he joined Total E&P as a specialist and Head of the Mineral Geochemistry Group at the CSTJF in Pau, France. Today, he acts as a Reservoir geochemistry/diagenesis expert for Total E&P.




Jean-Pierre’s prime area of interest and research is in sandstone-carbonate diagenetic processes and their impact on reservoir quality. Currently, he is actively involved in projects dealing with:

  • Absolute Dating of diagenesis and fluid flow events in sedimentary basins
  • Reconstructing OVP history in deeply buried reservoirs
  • Analytical developments for the characterization of diagenetic processes at the micro-scale
  • Diagenesis of Presalt reservoirs
